
Joor Baruah is interested in using documentary, films and music for social change.
He has an M.A. in Social Documentation (documentary filmmaking) from the Films & Digital Media Department, University of California, Santa Cruz and is currently pursuing an M.F.A. in Films at The Vermont College of Fine Arts. He is also an Associate Film Fellow at the Investigative Reporting Program (IRP), School of Journalism, University of California, Berkeley. Prior to pursuing artivism, Baruah had earned an M.B.A from Central University, India and 12+ years of international corporate experience in multicultural environments in Japan, HongKong, India, Netherlands and United States.

His films have shown in over 50 film festivals worldwide - 10 countries, 3 languages, 18 award niminations, won several Best Documentary awards.
His film Adi has also been selected for PBS POV Digital Lab 2017. His film Voice of Siang is a feature-length documentary commissioned by Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT), as a part of a prestigious film grant awarded to around 20 filmmakers from Asia every year.
Baruah is inspired by the folk songs of his mother Kavita Baruah (Rose); the spirit of his father Late. Upendra Kumar Baruah, who was a part of the civil rights movement in Chicago alongside Martin Luther King and authored 'Portrait of a Gandhian - Biography of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.).; and his revolutionary uncle Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
